What should you look for in a hub for hand-built wheels?
One of the advantages of hand-built wheels is the freedom to choose the components you prefer and build wheels to suit your specific needs. Another important advantage is that components that are still in good condition can continue to be used.
Nipples and spokes are consumable parts. Rims can last a long time, especially with disc brakes, but because they are located at the outer edge of the wheel, they are more susceptible to damage.
Hubs, on the other hand, are located at the center of the wheel and are therefore less likely to be damaged.
Compared with rims and spokes, hubs also have less influence on the overall ride feel. When rebuilding a wheel for a different purpose, it is common to replace the rim or spokes while continuing to use the same hub.
For this reason, a durable hub can be considered an “asset” that can remain in use for 10 or even 20 years, as long as there are no major changes in standards such as hub spacing.

Features
Auto Preload System
Bearings require an appropriate amount of preload.
EQUAL DISC HUB features a mechanism that automatically applies the proper preload.
There is no need to find the optimal bearing adjustment each time you perform maintenance—the system automatically keeps the bearings properly adjusted.
Chemical Labyrinth Seal
A seal ring is positioned in front of the bearing, with the space between them filled with grease. This combination of structural and chemical sealing enhances water and dust resistance.
Because the seal ring is not made of materials that deteriorate over time, such as resin or rubber, its water and dust resistance can be restored simply through maintenance, without replacing any parts.
Alternatively, the grease can be intentionally wiped away to tune the hub for smoother rotation.*
*This will reduce water and dust resistance.
Capless One-Piece Axle
キャップレスの一体型シャフトに設計しました。
キャップ構造とは違い、予期せぬ分解を防ぐことができることに加え、シャフトのエンド部の剛性が高くなります。
また、お手持ちの六角レンチがあれば分解ができるので、簡単にメンテナンスができます。
複数のカラーラインナップ
手組ホイールの大きな魅力の１つとしては、好きなカラーの部品が使えることです。
EQUAL ディスクハブは、6種類のカラーを標準で用意しています。
5種類のフリーボディから選択
シマノHG、シマノ マイクロスプライン、スラムXD-XDR*、カンパニョーロ（～12S）、カンパニョーロ（N3W）の5種類のフリーボディを用意。
フリーボディを差し替えることで、幅広いスプロケットに対応します。
冗長性**の観点から、あえて信頼性の高いスタンダードな「3爪・36ラチェット」タイプを採用しています。
また、フリーボディにはアルミニウム合金の中でも高い強度を持つ材料を使用し、スプロケットの噛み込みを抑えています。
*2026年8月より、スラムXD-XDRも4ベアリング仕様に変更となりました。
**トラブル時でも動作できる性能
4ベアリングフリーボディ（4BB）
フリーボディ内に4個のベアリングを配置。
各ベアリングにかかる負荷を分散することで、耐久性の向上と長寿命化を図っています。
また、ベアリングシールには雨や衝撃に強いW接触タイプを採用。
ベアリング内部へのダメージを抑え、滑らかな回転を長く維持します。
ベアリングは弱圧入としているため、オーバーホール時の交換も容易に行えます。
スプロケット回転トラブルを防ぐ
HG、XD/XDR*のフリーボディには、スプロケットの粘着リングの変形を軽減し、回転トラブルを抑える安定化リングが付属します。
*4ベアリング仕様（4BB）のXD/XDRフリーボディには付属しません。

Warnings
Install the tubeless valve correctly.
Improper installation may lead to falls or injuries.
Over-tightening may damage the valve or rim.
Install using the proper torque.
Installation
- Install the tubeless rim tape.
- Make a hole in the rim tape at the valve position.
- Insert the tubeless valve into the hole.
- Tighten the valve nut so that the rubber bushing of the valve fits snugly against the inside of the rim.
EQUAL ハブ FAQ
薄いスペーサーに関しては「スプロケット安定化リング」となります。
フリーボディに12速スプロケットを取り付けた際に、12速スプロケットの「粘着リング」が変形し、スプロケットが正しく回転しないトラブルが発生することがあります。
スプロケット安定化リングを使用することで、この粘着リングの変形を軽減し、トラブルを防ぐことが可能です。
さらに、11速スプロケットでもフリーボディとスプロケットの接触面積が増え、スプロケットの安定性向上につながるため、使用いただくことをを推奨いたします。
以下の組み方を推奨しております。
- フロント：逆イタリアン組
- リア：JIS組
＊ラジアル組にはできません
24ホールは2クロスとなります。
28ホールは3クロスとなります。

You can also use lithium or urea grease with NLGI grade #2 as a substitute.
